Making every contact count: Exploring behaviour change communication in health and social care
The Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach aims to equip public facing workers to utilise every contact with an individual to promote mental and physical health and well-being; taking opportunities to support, encourage or enable them to consider health behaviour changes such as stopping smoking, reducing obesity and improving their sense of wellbeing, an approach which is in-line with the current UK health care strategy to both improve and prevent health conditions in the UK. Despite its importance, various barriers to its implementation exist.
In this talk, I will highlight underpinning behaviour change principles, give overviews of local and national initiatives in the UK; discuss implementation programmes and research to understand effectiveness of behaviour change conversations.
