Burden of Long COVID after discharge (BLOC)

Since the beginning of the SARS-COV2 pandemic, several million French people have been infected and several thousand patients have been hospitalized for COVID-19. After the end of the acute episode, 30 to 40% of the patients keep various symptoms, persisting beyond 4 weeks post COVID. These symptoms, including fatigue, dyspnea, asthenia, headache, chest pain, arthralgia, neuropathic pain, depression, and insomnia, are referred to as "Long COVID". Long COVID can lead to functional disability, prolonged work stoppages, and the need for numerous medical and paramedical specialists, which results in high expenses for the Health Insurance. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the consumption of care of these patients, as well as the risk factors of a possible overconsumption.

The objectives of this study are to evaluate and compare the use of the health care system and the cost for patients with long COVID compared to those without, and to identify the possible existence of patterns of care consumption in long COVID patients. This is a retrospective cohort study conducted on the SNDS. It will provide an estimate of medical resource use and costs for patients hospitalized for COVID-19, based on reimbursement data.
