ABSTRACT
The International Classification of Primary Care (ICPC) was developed by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) to more accurately reflect primary healthcare realities. In 2020, the ICPC reached a major milestone with the release of its third version (ICPC-3). Designed to focus on patients' complaints, symptoms, and reasons for seeking care rather than strictly on diagnoses, it supports a more holistic and contextualized approach to patient care. A pilot project conducted at an academic primary care center alongside the deployment of a new electronic medical record system, provided an opportunity to implement the ICPC-3 in real-world clinical practice, backed by targeted training, on-site technical assistance, and regular feedback meetings between users and IT professionals.
