Thesis title : Exploring the psychosocial issues faced by student caregivers at university through a community-based approach

Year of registration : 2024

Young adult carers, a population still little studied in the literature, are today at the heart of new issues and are the focus of research projects aimed at gaining a better understanding of their experiences and living conditions, in a variety of cultural contexts (Jarrige et al., 2020). This population is made up of young people under the age of 25 who are enrolled in a higher education establishment, and who care for a loved one on a daily basis for reasons of health, loss of autonomy or physical and/or mental disability. It is in this context that the Danaecare association is keen to explore some of these issues in greater depth, by setting up its pilot project for student caregiver status. This thesis in social psychology is part of a wider project to set up a student helper status at university. The aim of this work is to explore the profiles and characteristics of student carers through a community-based approach. To do this, we will first create and train a collective. We will also carry out focus groups to identify differences and commonalities in the role of caregiver. The latter results will enable us to carry out a quantitative approach aimed at measuring the profiles belonging to the population of student carers. Finally, we will co-construct a first version of the content of the statute and implement its evaluation.
