Project description
 :

Due to their status, medical students generally lead a sedentary lifestyle, characterized by long periods of inactivity and low levels of physical activity. Since physical inactivity is positively correlated with poor mental health, it is important to raise students’ awareness of the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle to promote both their physical and mental health. In addition, many students face concerning levels of loneliness and social isolation.

The project, titled SANTÉ, aims to improve the mental health and social well-being of medical students through physical activity. To foster interactions among students volunteering for the SANTÉ project, a series of activities and events designed to bring them together will be organized. A program of social activities focused on physical activities tailored to the students’ needs and preferences will be implemented. In addition, regular events (hikes in the mountains) and a one-time event (sports competition) will further strengthen and promote their mental and physical health. The entire project will be evaluated using a scientific approach to ensure its effectiveness in promoting mental well-being and to assess the potential for its long-term sustainability.

This project will make it possible to offer a customized physical activity program that meets the specific needs of college students, on a long-term basis.

It consists of several stages, some of which have already been completed:

Stage 1: Assessment of students’ needs and co-development of the SANTÉ program—completed (2024). 29 students participated in individual interviews (discussions on the definition of health and physical activity). 8 students participated in focus groups and participatory co-design workshops (discussions on the content and structure of the SANTÉ program).

Step 2: Implementation of the SANTÉ program with students—completed (2025). 41 students participated in the SANTÉ program. Each student had the opportunity to participate in 10 physical activity sessions led by a physical activity coach, as well as an interview with a physical activity expert to discuss their needs and goals. Each student also had the opportunity to participate in a weekend hiking trip in the mountains.

Step 3: Organizing an “Olympiades” event for students—completed (2026). About ten students had the opportunity to participate in an “Olympiades” day during which they were offered various fun and athletic activities designed by the students themselves.

Step 4: Evaluation of the program’s effectiveness and impact—completed (2026).

Step 5: Large-scale rollout of the program—coming soon
