My research focuses on the quality and organisation of perinatal care. It examines the impact of health policies and clinical guidelines on obstetric practices, maternal and neonatal care pathways, and health outcomes. My main research topics include preterm birth, perinatal transfers, regionalised care, and the appropriateness of obstetric interventions. This work primarily draws on large health and administrative databases, national surveys, and population-based cohorts from France and Switzerland. It is closely aligned with RESHAPE’s Large Databases Axis, which studies the impact of health policies on professional practices, patient pathways, and health outcomes using large databases.
Thomas Desplanches is a midwife ultrasonographer, perinatal epidemiologist, and Assistant Professor at the Geneva School of Health Sciences, where he coordinates the GENMIR laboratory. He divides his clinical, teaching, and research activities between France and Switzerland. His research focuses on the quality and organisation of perinatal care, obstetric practices, and maternal and neonatal care pathways, primarily using large healthcare databases.
