Sinem Gunes holds a PhD in Philosophy and Sociology of Health. She defended her dissertation, « Managing One’s Life, Body, and Emotions after a breast cancer diagnosis » , in February 2025. From December 2022 to June 2024, as Principal Investigator of the SSIRT project, funded by the Cancéropôle Lyon Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, she designed and conducted a qualitative research study on the return to work of breast cancer patients from disadvantaged social backgrounds. Between 2020 and 2022, she co-organized the seminar « Réseaux d’idées sur la Santé » (Networks of Ideas on Health) at the University of Lyon.
