Year : 2026

Resume : This PhD thesis in economics focuses on modeling and quantifying the overall socio-economic burden of bedbug infestations in urban areas. Linked to the interdisciplinary BEDBUGS project (SHAPE-Med@Lyon, One Health approach), it aims to go beyond direct market costs to incorporate individual trade-offs, spatial externalities, and non-market health and psychosocial impacts. Combining household survey data with administrative datasets, the empirical framework applies tailored econometric methods. The thesis analyzes cost distribution among households, social housing providers, and local authorities, while evaluating the effectiveness of public mediation and support policies under real-world field conditions.
Eduardo Cerda Nova is an economist holding a Master's degree in Economic Analysis from the Universidad de Chile and a Master's degree in Governance of Environmental Risks from Université Lumière Lyon 2. His research interests encompass environmental economics, economics of education, public policy evaluation, and participation in multidisciplinary research projects, supported by expertise in statistical analysis and econometric modeling.
Currently a PhD candidate in economics affiliated with the GATE (UMR 5824) and RESHAPE (INSERM U1290) research laboratories, his doctoral research is part of the interdisciplinary BEDBUGS project (funded by the SHAPE-Med@Lyon program). His work focuses on modeling and quantifying the socio-economic, psychosocial, and health burden of bedbug infestations in urban environments, as well as econometrically evaluating the effectiveness of public interventions and mediation strategies under real-world field conditions.
