Resumé :
Transgender people, and particularly young people, experience poorer mental health than cisgender people, notably as a result of transphobic discrimination. In several countries, the rights of transgender people are currently being rolled back, particularly with regard to access to gender-affirming care for minors. Yet research shows that anti-trans policies have detrimental effects on the mental health of transgender people, whereas gender-affirming care has positive effects on their mental health. Within healthcare systems, transgender people also frequently face discrimination, often due to a lack of training among healthcare professionals. These experiences contribute to mistrust of healthcare providers and reduce healthcare utilization among transgender people. In this context, Student Health Services (SSE) represent an important avenue for ensuring access to healthcare for transgender students.
Despite the existence of research on discrimination within the medical field, few studies have specifically focused on SSE, and none have been conducted in France. Therefore, the overall aim of this doctoral project is to examine the care provided to transgender students within Student Health Services at French universities.
To address this objective, this project adopts a multidisciplinary approach drawing on clinical and social psychology.
